The employer must begin the permit application process for a future employee who will be staying in Belgium to work for longer than 90 days.

To be eligible for a Work Permit in Belgium, you must be;

  • a foreign national.
  • looking to work as an employee in the country.

It should be made clear that this visa is not for self-employed people or investors.

Documents

The required documents for Work Permit (More than 90 Days) are given below.

  • Documents about the employee's place of residence and proving their identity.
  • Employment contract
  • Proof of the employer's identity
  • Documentation if the employee is working on secondment.

Process

As an employer in Belgium, you can employ a non-European worker for more than 90 days. Apply for a so-called single permit, which the authorised region will process. When your application gets accepted, your employee will be granted a single permit, with which they can stay and work in Belgium for more than 90 days.

Visa Processing Time
The visa is usually processed in 8-10 weeks. But it can take more time in some cases.

How to Apply
Only submit a complete application dossier. It is not possible to email documents in later and has them added to a dossier that has already been submitted. Suppose you receive a warning that your computer file is too large. In that case, you need to make the file small enough to be submitted electronically.

After you have submitted the application dossier via the new online application, it will automatically be sent through to the authorised region (the Flemish region, Brussels Capital Region, Walloon region or the German-speaking community).

The employer applies for a single permit with a set term on behalf of any future foreign workers who will be staying in Belgium to work for more than 90 days. The employer must gather the documentation needed for the application.

Fees
The prices for a Work Permit vary according to the duration of your stay. Generally, a long-stay work visa costs 180 EUR.

Extension

Send the application to the Economic Migration Department minimum of two to four and a half months before the permit expires. Send in your renewal application using the unique service.
