ABOUT

If you are a non-EU citizen who wishes to work in Sweden, you will almost certainly need to acquire a Work Permit. You must have been offered a job before obtaining a permit. You cannot enter Sweden until it has been granted. You cannot get it to go to Sweden and look for a job.

There will be no need to apply for this permit if you:

  • have a permanent residence permit.
  • are having a residence permit to attend a college or university.
  • have a special residence permit to work as a researcher.
  • are an asylum seeker. Also, you have an AT-UND (exemption from the obligation to hold a Work Permit).
  • are a citizen of an EU country.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for a Work Permit of Sweden, you must:

  • be a citizen of non-EU countries.
  • be offered employment in the country.

Documents

To obtain a work permit, you must:

  • have a valid passport.
  • have been offered terms of employment that are at least on par with those set by Swedish collective agreements or which are customary within the occupation or industry.
  • have been offered a salary that is at least on par with that set by Swedish collective agreements or which is standard within the field or industry.
  • you must be offered a position that will enable you to support yourself. To satisfy this support requirement, you need to work to the extent that will result in a salary of at least SEK 13,000 per month before taxes.
  • have an employer who intends to provide insurance covering health, life, employment and pension when you begin to work.

Process

The main rule is that you should apply for and have been granted a Work Permit before entering Sweden. When applying online, you are given clear instructions about how to fill in your application and what you should send with the application. It makes it easier for you to apply correctly and increases your chances of a quick decision.

It is good to know the time visa will take to process and apply accordingly.

The visa processing can take a couple of months. So, you should be careful and apply for it on time.

Applying online should always be a priority, but if you cannot apply online, fill out an application for a Swedish Work Permit.

It lasts for two years.

Fees
The Work Permit in Sweden costs 2,000 SEK. You can pay using Visa or Mastercard. Submit the application after paying a fee. You and your employer will receive an email confirming about submission of your application. 

EXTENSION

Permit can be extended for two two years if needed. It may also lead to permanent residence.
