A foreigner who wishes to work in South Korea must apply for a Work Visa in South Korea. The following professionals can apply for this visa.

  • Those engaged in another activity approved by the Minister of Justice thru a contract with a public or private organisation or company in South Korea.

There are several types of Work Visas for South Korea. These are:

Visa Exemption for Jeju-do Region

You may not need a visa to visit the Jeju-do region of South Korea if you are from visa-exempt country. 

To enter the Jeju-do region without a visa, you must:

  • travel directly to Jeju International Passenger Terminal or Jeju International Airport
  • Only visit the Jeju-do region for tourism purposes. 
  • You can only stay for up to 30 days.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you need to have an employment contract with a South Korean organisation. Also, an adequate educational and professional record, and an acceptable criminal record.

Documents

All applicants are requested to submit the following documents.

  • Passport (valid for at least six months).
  • Application Form (filled in personally by the applicant).
  • Letter of invitation
  • Copy of company’s Report or Registration certificate under the Foreign Investment Promotion Act.
  • Copy of Corporate Registration.
  • Latest passport-size coloured photographs.
  • Consent to Quarantine
  • Job Certificate/ Recommendation Letter.
  • Bank Statement for the previous six months.
  • Marriage Certificate (in case of marriage with Korean), family relationship paper etc.

Process

How to Apply
You'll need to apply by filling in the online visa application form and then pay the due fees. Ensure that you've compiled all the required documents. After that you have to wait for the confirmation of your South Korea Visa Issuance.

Visa Processing Time
The visa takes roughly two weeks but can take more.

When to Apply
Make the embassy visa appointment well in advance of your desired date of travel to South Korea. It is because processing can take up to several weeks. Apply at the latest 15 days before you intend to go, but no earlier than three months.

Duration & Fees

Duration
Work Visa usually allows the individual to stay in South Korea for a period of 1 to 3 years. However, it can be extended.

Fees
The South Korea visa fees are:

  • Single entry (up to 90 days) - Fee: 40 USD
  • Single-entry visa (longer than 90 days) - Fee: 60 USD
  • Double-entry visa - Fee: 70 USD
  • Multiple-entry visa - Fee: 90 USD

Extension

Exceeding your authorized stay or not possessing a valid visa may result in detention and fines. In the event of an overstay, apply for a visa extension from the Korea Immigration Service (KIS) before leaving country. Also, consult with KIS regarding changes in the visa category. It is recommended to apply at least four months before your visa expires.
