About

Created in 1973, Universidade de Aveiro rapidly became one of Portugal's most innovative and dynamic universities. Working under private law, it is a public foundation that continues to implement and develop its mission to deliver undergraduate and postgraduate education, create knowledge and research, and promote collaboration with society.

Universidade de Aveiro offers inclusive degree programs in numerous areas of knowledge which reflect its innovative and multidisciplinary character. These programs are designed to shape student competencies in technical and scientific areas that meet the evolving needs of industry, business, and society.

It is among 14 public universities in Portugal and has grown into a competitive and dynamic institution. Incorporated with the community, Universidade de Aveiro has a robust research dimension and offers university and polytechnic undergraduate programs, doctoral programs, 2nd cycle masters programs and post-secondary vocational programs.

The mission of UA is to expand access and create knowledge through education, research and cooperation to benefit people and society. It aims to be a leading and active member of the European education and research community and promote regional development based on scientific knowledge and innovation.

Students

The university is attended by about 15,000 students in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Universidade de Aveiro is attended by more than 2,000 international students coming from 85 nations. Cultural diversity is very evident on the university campus, which enriches the community and gives it unique characteristics. The multicultural environment at the university offers a range of cultural, recreational, sports, social, and educational events throughout the academic year.

The Academic Association is the representative structure for students at Universidade de Aveiro. It is governed by fundamental principles of independence, representativeness and democracy. Among others, AAUAv aims to represent, organize and defend all students at the university.

Accommodation

Most of the 16 residences are situated within the Campus Universitário de Santiago. In contrast, others are located in the city, just a few minutes away from the University of Aveiro. The university residences have single, double or triple rooms. They are equipped with a kitchen, study rooms, internet and laundry services. The residences are not just for undergraduate and postgraduate students from Aveiro University but also for teaching staff who have had to relocate to the university from their hometowns and employees and visitors.
