ABOUT

The University of Calgary was first established as a branch of the University of Alberta in Calgary in 1944. Later in 1966, the university was given an anadromous status and was named the University of Calgary. Although the university has only crossed its Golden Jubilee, it offers a wide range of programs to study in. It is spread over 85 research centres and 14 faculties. 

The university is a member of U15 universities and is considered among the top research institutions in Canada. It has sponsored research revenue of 380 million USD, with total revenue exceeding 1.2 billion USD. The University of Calgary has close ties with the petroleum and geoscience industry through its Schulich School of Engineering and Department of Geosciences.

It has provided over 150,000 alumni in more than 150 countries worldwide. It has notable former students, including James Gosling, Java computer language inventor, Garett Camp Uber co-founder and Chip Wilson, founder of Lululemon Athletica.

STUDENTS

This university is considered a home to more than 30,000 students. Of these students, around 25,000 are undergraduate, 6,000 are graduates, and about 500 are doctorate-level. These students can be both Canadian national and international.

SSC (Student Success Centre) at the university offers services and programs to support students' academic, personal and career success. It offers orientation programs, leadership programs, Arts and Science program advising, Writing support services and Learning support services.

The Alexander Rutherford Scholarship is a notable high-level scholarship introduced by the government in 1980. It is given to students with exceptional academic achievement. Here students get many scholarships and bursaries.

UToday and Gauntlet are two main newspapers of the University of Calgary. CJSW is campus radio, a member of the National Campus and Community Radio Association. NUTV is a university-based television production society and is one of the oldest in Canada, established in 1983.

ACCOMMODATIONS

The institute provides you with a place to reside with students of your age from all over the world. About 1700 students are offered a residence place or, more importantly, a home each year. Although the application process is online, you can book a tour to have a fair idea about the residence. Living in on-campus housing is the best option for international students. It is conveniently located and allows you to socialize with the university’s community and other students.
