The University of Pennsylvania is a private research institution in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Penn has 12 professional and graduate schools as well as 4 undergraduate schools. Among these schools enrolling undergraduates include the School of Applied Science and Engineering, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Nursing and the Wharton School. One University Policy of the university allows students to enrol in classes in Penn's 12 schools.

Benjamin Franklin started this university in 1740 to benefit society by integrating study in sciences and liberal arts with opportunities for practical, pre-professional training and research at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Students

The University has a student population of 24,806. The University of Pennsylvania is home to a number of organizations that promote arts, from jazz to stand-up comedy, dance to spoken word, a cappella, theatre and more. PAC (Performing Arts Council) oversees 45 student associations and organizations in these areas. The Performing Arts Council has 4 subcommittees: Dance Arts Council; A Cappella Council; SMAC (Singer, Musicians, and Comedians); and (TAC-e) Theatre Arts Council.

Penn Athletics provides recreational and intercollegiate opportunities that enrich the student experience at the university and makes athletic activities and facilities available to the entire academic community on the campus. Campus Recreation at the University of Pennsylvania offers recreational facilities and activities to the entire Penn community. Activities include fitness and yoga classes, intramurals, sports clubs, rock climbing, aquatic programming, and much more. The Intramural Sports program provides organized activities that promote socialization and participation between individuals and groups, enhance physical fitness, and foster sportsmanship and a spirit of fair play for members.

Accommodation

At the University of Pennsylvania, there are nearly 40 themed residential programs with shared interests within the College Houses, such as science and technology or world cinema. Many of the nearby apartments and homes in the areas surrounding the university are often rented by students moving off campus after their first year and professional and graduate students.
