University of Tromsø

ABOUT

The University of Tromsø, often known as the Arctic University of Norway, is the northernmost university in the world. It was founded in 1968 and inaugurated in 1972. It is one of Norway's eight universities. Northern Norway's primary research and teaching institution are the University of Tromsø. The university's position offers it an ideal place to research the area's natural environment, culture, and society.

The institution focuses primarily on light auroral research, space science, fisheries science, biotechnology, languages, multicultural communities, Saami culture, telemedicine, epidemiology, and a broad range of Arctic research initiatives.

The proximity of the Norwegian Polar Institute, the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research, and the Polar Environmental Centre bolsters Tromsø as a worldwide center for Arctic research. However, research efforts are not restricted to Arctic subjects. The university's researchers are nationally and globally recognized for their work in various disciplines.

UiT is a traditional university with seven faculties: health sciences, science and technology, law, humanities, social sciences, and education, as well as faculties of biosciences, fisheries, economics, fine arts, and Finnmark.
