About

Apply for a Study Permit if you plan to attend school or study in Norway for over three months. If are given this permit, you will be allowed to work 20 hours each week while taking classes and full-time on weekends and holidays.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you need to fulfil the following conditions:

  • invited by a Norwegian institute
  • able to support yourself financially

Documents

You need the following documents before you apply for a Study Permit.

  • Passport and a duplicate of each page that has been used. 
  • A signed letter of introduction from the application portal (or application form). 
  • Two recent, white-background, passport-size photos.
  • If you are starting a new study programme, you need a letter of full-time admission from an approved educational institution. It should state your name, what study program you are admitted to, the length of the program and at what level these studies are.
  • Evidence of sufficient funds to afford your living expenses.
  • If you are required to pay tuition fees, documents that show you can pay your tuition fees.
  • Documents which show that you have somewhere to live in Norway.

You must submit a translation of any documents you have that aren't in Norwegian or English into one of those two languages.

Process

You can either come to Norway to finish your bachelor's or master's degree programme or complete a portion of your degree there via one of the known exchange programmes or agreements between institutions.

When to Apply
Apply at least a few months before moving to Norway. It will give you a better chance of securing a Study Permit.

Visa Processing Time
Kindly note that processing first-time Study Permits could take two to three months. The waiting period might be increased if there are any missing documents or application/document errors.

How to Apply
The process of application is online. You should apply, provide documents, pay the fee and wait for confirmation. You may also consult a visa consultant for that matter.

This permit is usually valid for the duration of your studies.

Fees
The Study Permit or student visa in Norway can cost about 4,900 NOK, equivalent to 545 USD.

Extension

After your course ends, you may apply for an extension if you have started another course. Otherwise, you may also apply for a one-year stay in the country for work after graduation.
