About

You can apply for a residency permit as a skilled worker if you have completed your higher education or vocational training. You need to have accepted a job offer or run your own business.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you need to possess one of the following education levels or credentials.

  • A degree in a profession that requires at least three years of upper secondary school training, like carpentry or nursing. 
  • A degree or completed education from a university or college, such as a bachelor's in nursing or engineering. 
  • When combined with courses and other experiences, any unique qualifications you have accrued through extensive work experience will be considered.

Apart from that;

  • You should have a written job offer from a specific Norwegian employer. 
  • Normally, the position must be full-time. 
  • The job that is being offered to you must require skill-based qualifications.

Documents

Following is the documentation you need to provide when applying for the first time.

  • Passport and a copy of each page that has been used. 
  • From the application form or Application portal, a signed cover letter.
  • Two recent, white-background, passport-size photos. 
  • Documentation proving you are living somewhere in Norway.
  • The UDI's Offer of employment form, completed.
  • Documentation that shows that the pay you have been offered meets the requirements.
  • Your education documents.
  • Documents of your work experience. 
  • CV

Process

You must collect all the paperwork on the UDI website's pertinent checklist. You will need to obtain some of the documents yourself, while others must be given by your point of contact in Norway.

The visa processing can take a few months, depending upon various factors.

How to Apply
You must first register your application in the Application Portal before submitting your passport and other supporting documents to the embassy, consulate, or VFS office. 

You must create a user account if registering an application for the first time in the portal.  After registion, you will receive an email confirmation with an attached cover letter.

Your application form and fee payment will be attested to in the cover letter. This letter must be printed and submitted with the other necessary documents.

Duration & Fees

Duration
Your ability to obtain a residence permit depends on the job that has been offered to you. 

  • You can obtain a residence permit for a maximum of one year at a time if the job requires that you have finished a vocational training program at the upper secondary school level. 
  • Normally, you can receive a residence permit for three years at a time if the position demands that you have earned a degree from a university or college.

Fees
A Work Visa in Norway costs 6,300 NOK (690 USD). It is also the price for extending your Work Visa. When you finish the online application on the UDI website, you must pay the cost with a debit or credit card.

Extension

You may apply for an extension before the permit expires. After spending 3 years in the country, you can also apply for permanent residence.
