If you want to relocate to Norway with a family member, you can apply for family immigration. Typically, a Norwegian citizen's spouse, cohabitant, or child applies for family immigration. In this visa application, two parties are involved 'reference person' and 'applicant'. 

The Reference Person
A Norwegian-born member of the family. 

The Applicant
The person who needs a residence permit wants to move to Norway or stay in this country.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must;

  • be in relation with a Norwegian citizen
  • have plans to live together in Norway. 
  • not have been forced to marry
  • be minimum 24 years old.

Documents

Arrange following documents before you apply for this visa.

  • Signed cover letter from the Application portal (or application form)
  • A new passport photo with a white background if you are applying from abroad.
  • You do not need to submit a passport photo if you are applying from Norway and are staying in Norway while waiting for an answer.
  • If you want to authorise a member of your family or another individual in Norway to represent you in link with your application: the Power of Attorney form was completed.
  • Print-out of this list of the documents you have to hand in filled out and signed by you.

Process

Learn what kind of residency permit you require, for example, for work, education, family immigration, or to remain in Norway as an Au Pair. After knowing your desired permit, apply for it.

When to Apply
You must know the visa processing time and apply accordingly. Apply as early as possible to be in the safe zone.
