The University of Wisconsin-Madison (or UW-Madison) is the recognised state university of Wisconsin and one of the Public Ivy League institutions in the United States. It was founded in 1848. 

It is a public land grant and a research university. Furthermore, it is the first and oldest university in the state. It is renowned for its College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in particular.

Due to its high level of research, it is considered an R1 university. Their estimated research expenditure is $1.2 billion.

Is UW-Madison hard to get into?
UW-Madison has a 51.7 per cent acceptance rate. 52 out of every 100 applicants are accepted. The school is more lenient than other schools, but they still expect you to meet their GPA and SAT/ACT requirements.

It is one of the members of the Association of American Universities (AAU). This high-ranking university is also a participant in Big Ten Academic Alliances. The student of these alliances can borrow in-house privileges from libraries. 

Forty-one Pulitzer Prizes and 20 Nobel Prizes have been given to U.W. graduates or faculty members.

It is the only university that participated in the Navy College Training Program during World War II.

The UW-Madison has 33,506 undergraduates, 9,772 graduates, 1,968 special and 2,686 professional students. 

The University of Wisconsin-Madison competes in 25 intercollegiate sports in the NCAA Division I Big Ten Conference. Moreover, it also won 31 national championships. In the Olympics, students and alumni have won 50 medals.
