Pre-Marriage Long-Term Visit Pass Assessment (PMLA) Singapore

ABOUT

Couples who are Singapore citizens but do not live in Singapore should complete their Pre-Marriage Long-Term Visit Pass Assessment (PMLA) before getting married.

The PMLA is a free online assessment. It lets them:

  • before getting married, share important information.
  • find out if your future NR (Non-Resident) spouse is eligible for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) after you marry.
  • submit an LTVP application later, after which they will see a significant reduction in processing time.

Marriage to a Singapore citizen does not automatically grant the NR spouse entry or acceptance for a long-term stay in the country.

While the PMLA is intended to accurately assess the prospective NR spouse's eligibility for an LTVP after marriage, it is not an immigration pass. It also does not imply that it has been approved. The NR spouse must apply for an LTVP separately after marriage to be considered for a long-term stay in Singapore.

Suppose a couple's conditions change between their PMLA and LTVP applications. In that case, the outcomes of their PMLA and LTVP applications may differ in rare cases.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible, you must be:

  • a spouse of a Singapore citizen.
  • An NR (Non-Resident) in Singapore. Such a spouse should also apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass.

Documents

Before beginning the PMLA submission, have the following information on hand:

  • For citizens of Singapore - Singpass
  • For Non-Resident (NR) - NR passport details
  • Personal information of Singapore citizen and NR spouse

For assessment, there is no need to submit any documents. But there are some advisory notes you need to follow.

  • Full out online PMLA form entirely in English.
  • To access this online form, Singapore citizens will need a Singpass account.
  • The form is in two sections. Section 1 is for Singapore citizens. And Section 2 is for the potential NR spouse.
  • Each part of the form includes residential status, biodata, educational information, marital status etc.

Process

This free PMLA form can be used by a Singapore citizen planning to marry an NR to see if the potential NR spouse will likely be eligible for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP). After registering their marriages, couples who receive a positive PMLA result (got Letter of LTVP Eligibility, LLE) may apply for the LTVP.

When to Apply
The application is usually submitted after marriage. But the applicants are highly encouraged to complete their application before the wedding.
