ABOUT

A Student Visa is termed a Student's Pass in Singapore. A foreigner needs a "Student's Pass" who got accepted into a Singapore educational institution and has more than 30 days of academic program. Furthermore, their universities are referred to as Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL)

You do not need a Student's Pass if you have an Immigration Exemption Order. Or you have been granted a Short-Term Visit Pass at a Singapore Checkpoint and wish to attend a short course.

Does Singapore reject Student Pass?

There is no assurance that all Student Pass applications will be accepted. If you are denied this pass, you may want to consult a professional for advice.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible, you:

  • should be 19 years old and below at the time of application.
  • may have to go through an interview if you are older than 19.
  • invited by an institute in Singapore.

DOCUMENTS

When called upon, applicants able to attend an interview need to submit the following documents: 

  • Your original identification documents.
  • A Registration Acknowledgement Letter from that school which you have to attend.  
  • Your private details, including a list of previous countries/locations where you have lived, your employment history, educational background, and financial support. 
  • If applicable, personal information about your parents, spouse, and/or siblings.
  • In Singapore, your residential address and contact information.

PROCESS

You are not required to be in Singapore during the processing of your application. Therefore, apply for this Pass before arriving in Singapore. You will be unable to extend your stay while the application is still in process. If your application is approved, you can travel to Singapore to complete the necessary paperwork for your Student's Pass to be issued.

When to Apply
You must submit your application online using the e-Service at least four weeks before your course begins.

Visa Processing Time
Processing time is from 2-4 months for cases requiring interviews. Inquiry on the outcome of the interview will not be entertained.

How to Apply
You'll need a local sponsor to apply for this Pass. The local sponsor must be at least 21 years old and a Permanent Resident (PR) or Singapore Citizen (SC). Companies and organisations are not permitted to serve as sponsors. If you have a PR or SC parent or step-parent, they can sponsor this Pass application locally.

DURATION & FEES

Duration
The student pass is for students trying to apply for more than 30 days long course at a University in Singapore.

Fees
The total cost is 90 SGD for a Student Pass. It includes 30 SGD for visa processing and 60 SGD for issuing a Student Pass. Fees are non-refundable. 

EXTENSION

Once their student pass has been cancelled or expired, graduates are usually issued a Short-Term Visit Pass by which they can stay in Singapore for 90 days. But if your program is still uncompleted, you may apply for a student visa renewal.
