About

A foreigner who comes to China for more than six months of study, advanced studies, or intern practice is granted a Study Visa (X Visa). An immigrant who comes to China for no more than six months to study short-term higher studies or intern practice must apply for an (F) Visa.

Furthermore, there are two sorts of Student Visas for China:

  • Those planning to study in China for more than 180 days will be granted an X1 visa.
  • The X2 visa is for students who plan to study in China for no more than 180 days.

Eligibility

You are eligible if you;

  • want to study in China.
  • have received a student admission letter.

Documents

Please submit the following documents for your application.

  • You must provide your original passport, which must still be valid for at least additional six months, along with a photocopy of the information/photo page and at least one blank visa page.
  • Submit Visa Application Form of China (V2011A) and Supplementary Visa Application Form (V2011B), which are truthfully completed and signed.
  • On the application form, please attach one colour photo. The photo should be the latest, in front view, 48mm x33mm size without head covering.
  • The original and a photocopy of the school admission letter and Foreign Student Visa Application Form (JW201 or JW202) issued by the Chinese authorities are required.

Process

When to Apply
You must realize the visa processing time before you apply.

Visa Processing Time
There can be three possibilities regarding the visa processing time:

  • Regular Service: For picking up on the fourth working day.
  • Express Service: For picking up on the third working day along with an additional fee of $25 for each person.
  • Second Day Rush Service: For pick up on the second day along with an additional fee of $40 for each person.

How to Apply
You may submit your application to the Visa Office of the Consulate General, which holds consular jurisdiction over the division/state where you reside.

If you cannot come personally, you may entrust someone else or a travel/visa agent to submit your application to the Consulate General's visa office, which holds consular jurisdiction over the division/state where you reside;

  • No appointment is required.
  • Mailed applications are not entertained and will be refused.

Duration & Fees

Duration
X1 visa is valid for more than 180 days, while an X2 visa is for no more than 180 days.

Fees
Student Visa may cost $40. The payments are made in USD.

Extension

The visa is extendable or renewable according to your requirements.

Under specific circumstances, depending upon your course type and duration, you may be allowed to work after spending one year in China.
