About

The Japan Tourist Visa is a Short Stay Visa for foreigners who wish to visit the culturally rich land of Japan for tourism purposes. It's counted as one of the safest countries on earth, making it ideal for travel.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Tourist Visa, you must fulfill the follwoing criteria. 

  • The applicant has a valid passport and is eligible to return to the country of their nationality or residence. 
  • All documents submitted are genuine, complete, and satisfactory. 
  • The proposed activities in Japan, the applicant's civil status or position, and the length of stay meet the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act's requirements for residence status and length of stay. (In 1951, Cabinet Order No. 319 was issued.) The "Immigration Control Act" will be referred to as "the Act". 
  • Paragraph 1 of Article 5 of the Immigration Control Act does not apply to the applicant in any way.

Documents

The required document differs depending on the applicant's nationality, travel purpose, etc. For details, you can refer to your local Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General website. The following documents are required:

  • Passport
  • Visa Application Form
  • Photographs
  • Letter of Reason for Invitation.
  • Schedule of Stay
  • Letter of Guarantee

Process

Where to Apply
Apply for Tourist Visa at the Japanese Consulate or Embassy in your area. Also ensure your applications and documents are in order. 

The application review process occurs in the Embassy or Consulate. If necessary, the Japanese Embassy or Consulate-General may contact you and request that you attend an interview or submit additional documents. After completing the examination go to get your passport back, where you will find out if your visa has been issued or not issued.

Visa Processing Time
As long as there are no significant issues with the application's content, the processing time for granting a visa is approximately five working days from the date of acceptance of the application. Depending on your visit purpose and the Embassy or Consulate-General, it may take less processing time.

Duration & Fees

Duration
Visas are only valid for a single visit to Japan. The single-entry visa has a three-month validity period. Please ensure that the visa holder applies for landing with an immigration officer at the port of entry where they wish to land and undergoes a landing examination before the visa expires. The visa would become invalid once they have applied for landing or have reached the expiry date, whichever comes first.

Fees
A single-entry visa costs around 3,000 yen. Multiple-entry or Double-Entry Visa costs 6,000 yen. In comparison, a Transit Visa costs 700 yen. The payment of fees is in the country's currency (region) where the Consulate General or Embassy is situated. 

A Visa fee may be different or not required based on the objective of your visit and your nationality. 

There are no fees if the visa is not issued. Suppose the visa application is submitted through an approved agency by the Japanese Consulate General or Embassy. In that case, processing fees must be paid in addition to the visa issuance fees.

Extension
