ABOUT

Istanbul University is a public research institute located in Istanbul, Turkey. The University was established a day after Constantinople was conquered by Mahmed III in 1453. It had several names over time before its current name in 1930. The University is spread over five campuses, including 33 academic units, various faculties and colleges.

One of the main traits of Istanbul University is its leadership for centuries in higher education. This institute has played an influential and guiding role cultural and social life of the country. Established in 1453, It is one of the oldest educational institutes in Turkey and the world. The university functions as a reflection of Turkey’s history of independence and science.

Being a bridge between past and future and East and West, this University is the leading institute that creates beneficial knowledge for both world and Turkey and brings up competent and skilled individuals.

STUDENTS

The University has been a home for about 70,000 students, including 7,000 international students from all over the world. Over time, Istanbul University has produced thousands of world leaders, researchers, and intellectuals, including two Nobel prize winners.

To maximize the satisfaction level of international students and contribute to the vision of the University with a mission of financial support, solution-oriented administrative operation, qualified education, and integrative, cultural, social, and sportive activities. The academic collaborations with Bilateral-Multilateral Relations, Farabi, Mevlana and Erasmus, carry out all national and international academic relations.

The Sports Association at Istanbul University has 35 branches. Some of these are professional teams, and some are with the participation of University students. The mission of the University is to provide the students, staff and faculty with the opportunity to do regular sports and physical exercises in several sports branches. The University organizes several sports activities to encourage a healthy lifestyle. The intuition of the University is to create an environment for individuals where all students acquire sports philosophy, ethics, and practice habits.

ACCOMMODATION

The University offers on-campus residence for both national and international students. In university housing, students get options for rooms for 2, 3, and 4 people and these residences are fully equipped and furnished with all facilities. Owing to the high number of students, facilitating everyone might not be possible. So, you might have to look for an off-campus residence.
