Peking University


Also known as Beida, Peking University is one of China's renowned public research institutes. It is considered a symbol of modern Chinese education. The University was founded in 1898 as the Imperial University of Peking and was the very first University of China.

Peking University takes pride in its remarkable faculty, including 8 members of CAE (Chinese Academy of Engineering), 63 members of CAS (Chinese Academy of Sciences), 17 members of TWAS (Academy of Sciences for the Developing World). This University strives not only for the improvement in research work and teaching but also for endorsing mutual promotion and interaction among various disciplines. Thus, this institute has become a centre of research and teaching, adopting diverse areas of learning such as applied and basic sciences, humanities and social sciences, management, medicine and education.

It is spread over six faculties, including Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, Economics, Engineering and Humanities, and offers about 90 Undergraduate, 200 graduate and 170 programs on the doctoral level.


PKU is responsible for providing quality education to about 40,000 students. These students also include over 5,000 international students.

Over time, the University has been a welcoming host for some great people globally and, more importantly, China's history. It has been an educational destination for the great leader Mao Zedong (Chairman Mao).

In creating initiatives, cultivating talents, serving society and leading culture, PKU has always led China's modernization. Students here enjoy vibrant campus life. Since its foundation, Peking University has been famous for its student activities. The University encourages and supports students to experience campus life by participating in various student activities. These activities help students to develop interpersonal friendships, leadership and creativity.

Beida Cup Athletic Championship is held every which provides students with a great opportunity to promote athletic spirit on campus and compete with students from other departments. Teams from departments compete in various sports like basketball, football, volleyball etc.


Peking University is one of the most populated universities in China. Therefore the institute can't arrange accommodation for everyone. So, you will have the option of on-campus residence, but there is no need to be surprised if you have to live off-campus.

International students have reserved housing in Zhongguanyuan Global Village. It is located outside of the Southeast Gate of PKU. This village is a comprehensive park integrating student residences, conferences, catering, recreation and other services. Building No.1 has 203 rooms to executive halls; these all rooms are furnished according to 4-star standards. Building No.9 has 176 rooms with different room options, and all rooms furnished are according to 3-star standards.
