About

Apply for an Innovator Visa if:

  • Suppose you want to start and operate an innovative business in the UK. In that case, your product or service must be unique compared to currently available.
  • An authorised body, often known as an endorsing body, has endorsed your company or business idea.

Eligibility

You are eligible for an Innovator Visa if you fulfil the following conditions.

  • Suppose you want to launch and operate an innovative business in the UK. In that case, your product or service must be unique compared to other offerings. 
  • An authorised body, also known as an endorsing body, has supported your company or business proposal.

If you want to launch a new company
Suppose you wish to start a new firm. In that case, you must have a minimum of £50,000 in investment money before applying for an Innovator Visa. You'll have to provide evidence of your financing source.

You don't require any investment funds if:

  • your company is already founded and has received a previous visa endorsement, or
  • you've previously informed your endorsing body of the change in your business.

Supporting yourself
For the previous 28 days, you had to have at least £1,270 in your bank account before you either:

  • Apply for Innovator Visa
  • Suppose you have been in the United Kingdom for less than a year. In that case, you can seek to convert to an Innovator Visa or renew your Innovator Visa.

You cannot rely on one or both of the following to sustain yourself: 

  • The proceeds of your investment portfolio 
  • Money made from illegally working in the UK

Sharing of Investment funds
Together with other Innovator applicants, you cannot share the very same investment capital, but you may join a team. For each Innovator applicant, your team needs £50,000. For instance, if your team has two Innovator applicants, it needs £100,000 to invest.

Documents

You must provide an "endorsement letter" with your application to demonstrate that an endorsing body has reviewed your firm or business plan. You are also required to provide the following.

  • A current passport or other proof of identity and nationality.
  • Bank statements demonstrate that you have at least £1,270 in savings for at least 28 days before applying.
  • Evidence that you can communicate in English. 
  • Proof of your investment cash is required if you are starting a new firm. 
  • If you are from a nation where you must take the test, the results of your tuberculosis test.

You must provide translated documents by a certified translator if these aren't in Welsh or English.

Process

You must provide identification documentation as part of your application. Depending on your country of origin and passport type, there are many ways to accomplish this.

You'll either:

  • Get a biometric residency permit by taking your fingerprints and photo at a visa application centre. 
  • You can create or sign in to your UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account while scanning your identity document using the "UK Immigration: ID Check" app.

When you apply, you'll be instructed what to do.

When to Apply
You can apply as early as three months before your desired departure date.

Visa Processing Time
Once you've submitted an online application, verified your identification, and presented your papers, a decision on your visa is often made within:

  • 3 weeks - if you're outside the UK
  • 8 weeks - if you're inside the UK

Duration & Fees

Duration
If either of the following applies, you may remain for three years.

  • If you come to the UK on an Innovator Visa.
  • In case of switching to this visa from another visa while in the UK.

You can request to extend your stay for three years when your visa expires. You can extend this visa many times.

Fees
Whether you apply for yourself or your partner and child (if any), the cost is £1,021 for each person if you apply from outside the UK. 

If you are extending or switching while in the UK, the cost is £1,277 for each person. 

Extension

If both of the following are true, you may apply to renew your Innovator Visa.

  • You comply with the eligibility requirements.
  • You want to start a new company or are still operating in the UK.

If you want to extend the visa of your spouse or kids, you must apply separately. They can apply either at the same time as you or whenever their existing visa expires.

To start a new firm, you need £50,000 in investment capital. There is no need for funds if either of the following applies to you.

  • Your company is already founded and has received a previous visa endorsement, or
  • You've altered your business and have already agreed with your endorsing body about it.

When you extend your visa, you must have an approving body evaluate your company or business concept.

Highlights

Business
You can establish one or more enterprises and work for them, including serving as a director while employed or as a self-employed partner in a commercial partnership.

Dependants
If your partner and kids qualify as your "dependants," you may bring them.

Multi-entry
You can leave the country and come back to the UK.

Residence 
Suppose you've been in the UK for three years and are otherwise eligible. In that case, you can apply to settle here permanently (sometimes known as "indefinite permission to remain").
