ABOUT

Established in 1928, Aarhus University (AU) is a public research university. It is Denmark's second oldest and largest university, followed by the University of Copenhagen. Moreover, it is ranked in the top 10 best universities globally and as the most beautiful university in Europe. AU's main campus is in Aarhus, Denmark.

The University offers studies in five faculties, including Arts, Health, Technical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Health, Business and Social Sciences. Within these faculties, there are twenty-seven departments. At the bachelor's and master's levels, Aarhus University offers more than 50 comprehensive programmes in English. Additionally, all PhD programmes are offered in English. Students who want to attend Aarhus University in Denmark must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.4 to have a solid chance of being admitted. It contains more than 30 globally recognized research centres, and these are supported by the Danish National Research Foundation.

Over the years, Aarhus University has produced some great names. These include several Nobel Prize laureates such as Trygve Haavelmo, Dale T. Mortensen and Jens Christian Skou. Other notable alums are  Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, Anders Fogh Rasmussen (Former Prime Minister of Denmark) and Bjarne Stroustrup (inventor of the programming language C++).

STUDENTS

The University is considered a home for about 38,000 students in various undergraduate and graduate programs. About 3,000 of these students are international from around the world. Over a thousand international exchange students attend Aarhus University every year for one or two terms to study. Nearly 3000 of them were enrolled in full-time degree programmes in 2009.

Aarhus University provides a small number of scholarships to deserving non-European applicants. Depending on the student's merit, Aarhus University will waive all or part of their tuition. Only applicants who are required to pay tuition fees are eligible for scholarships.

At Aarhus University, the International Center offers various services for international students, including housing, help desk, introductory program etc. Before applying for this institute, you should also learn about Higher Educational Programmes Denmark and their Permanent Residence Permit.

ACCOMMODATION

Aarhus University Housing is responsible for making arrangements regarding the residence. It provides around 500 rooms/flats for upcoming students. Separate accommodations are offered to students, PhD candidates and employees. Moreover, you may also arrange for a private residence if need be.
