Employment Pass (EP) Malaysia

About

Foreign nationals must have a Malaysian work visa in order to work there. You must locate a company in Malaysia that is ready to recruit you in order to obtain a work visa. A Malaysia Employment Pass is required if you want to work in a professional or highly trained capacity for a Malaysian business or organisation.

For experienced or technically trained individuals with specialised job experience, the employment pass is largely accessible. It gives employees a contract of employment with a maximum term of 60 months, enabling them to reside and work lawfully in the nation.

One of the work permit categories that the Malaysian government issues is the Employment Pass. Your company must get authorization to recruit you from a government agency before you can travel to Malaysia on an Employment Pass.

Eligibility

There are different categories of Malaysian employment passes. The eligibility criteria for each one of them vary. For instance,

  • You must have a salary of 10,000 RM for category 1, 5,000 to 10,000 for category 2 and 3,000 to 5,000 for category 3.
  • You must have a work contract of up to 5 years.
  • You cannot work in a field that is regarded as restricted.
  • You must possess the necessary academic credentials for the position.

Documents

Your employer must submit the supplemental paperwork listed below when applying for an employment pass:

  • Your passport-size photo, as required by Malaysian photo regulations.
  • Expatriate Post authorization letter or approval from the appropriate authority body.
  • The go-ahead to file the application from the company.
  • Your offer and approval letter or your employment contract.
  • Copies of your credentials and certificates, as well as your resume.
  • A copy of the Malaysian Companies Commission's company profiles for your employer (SSM).
  • Any additional paperwork requested throughout the application process.

Process

You do not need to apply for Employment Pass if you are a foreign worker. Prior to your departure for Malaysia, your employer will submit the application on your behalf.

Visa Processing Time
You may submit your application in accordance with the processing time for a Malaysian work permit, which is roughly 7 working days. According to the advice, it will be preferable if you submit your application at least 14 days before the date you intend to go.

How to Apply
There are two steps involved in getting a Malaysian Employment Pass:

  • Your employer must submit a request to the Expatriate Committee (EC) or a similar legitimate approved body for permission to hire you. Applying for an expatriate post is the process involved with this.
  • Your employer must submit the Work Permit Malaysia application to the Malaysian Immigration Department once the Expatriate Post application has been granted.
