Highly Skilled Migrant Netherlands

About

To work as a highly-skilled migrant in the Netherlands, you must have a residence permit.

This visa has two categories.

With MVV
You need to have a provisional residence permit to enter the Netherlands (MVV).

The Dutch representation places a sticker known as the MVV on the passport. Using it depends upon the country you belong to or from where you are travelling.

Without MVV
You do not have an MVV-required nationality. You are travelling to the Netherlands in your permit-exempt term. You do not need a visa to travel to the Netherlands. You then have 3 months to apply for a residence permit in the Netherlands.

Eligibility

The following requirements must be met by both you and your employer when you apply for this visa:

  • In the Netherlands, you are employed by a company or a research institute. The Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) has recognised this employer as a sponsor. The Public Register of Recognized Sponsors contains a list of recognised employers.
  • Your income will be sufficient enough for your stay.
  • The agreed-upon wage is in line with current market rates.
  • If you will be working as an individual healthcare professional, you must be registered in the BIG-register. BIG stands for 'Individual Healthcare Professions.'

Documents

Before applying for the visa, gather the following documents.

  • Identity documents
  • Proof that you are eligible for the visa.
  • A letter of invitation from the employer.
  • Documents of dependents, if any.

Process

The application process is approximately the same for both the sub-types of visas. A common requirement of an online application is the uploading of documents. The specific documents you must upload depend on the online application.

When to Apply
You should be mindful of the visa processing time and apply accordingly.

Visa Processing Time
The IND checks whether you and your employer meet all the conditions. They decide about it in 90 days.

How to Apply
Your authorised employer submits the application form and all necessary paperwork to the IND. They send a letter outlining how the application fees will be paid following the receipt of the application.

Duration & Fees

Duration
Your residence permit's validity period corresponds to your assignment or employment contract duration maximum of five years. As a highly-skilled immigrant, you are qualified for a search period time of up to three months if you become unemployed during this time.

This application costs €345.

There are various options to go for as your visa expires.
