About

Your partner currently resides abroad, and you would like for them to join you in the Netherlands. Or perhaps you'd prefer to live with your Dutch lover. You must apply for a residence permit in both situations.

Your family member requires a special visa, a Provisional Residency Permit, to enter the Netherlands (MVV). The MVV and residency permit must be applied for simultaneously. Your family member might not always require it.

Eligibility

Conditions for the Netherland citizen

  • You have a valid Dutch residence permit.
  • You have sufficient income to live together with your partner.
  • You are your partner's sponsor.

Conditions for your partner

  • Your partner is not a danger to public order and national security.
  • Your partner's rights and obligations.

Documents

You may need to provide the following documents while applying for the residence permit.

  • Provide identity documents from both sides.
  • Provide proof of your relation.
  • Prove that both the applicants are above 21.
  • Proof of financial stability.
  • Provide documents for the place where you are going to live together.

Process

When to Apply
You should apply a few months before you want to move to the Netherlands. Moreover, have a clear-cut idea about the visa processing time and apply accordingly.

The residence permit for your partner is processed in a couple of months or even more in some cases.

How to Apply
For the online application, you need to have a DigiD with verification via SMS. If you do not have DigiD or do you not have verification via SMS, then first apply for DigiD or verification via SMS. Do not forget to check the box verification via SMS. You may also contact a visa consultant to avoid any problems.

This application costs €207. Sometimes different fees may apply.

Extension

The permit is initially allotted for 5 years. It leads to a permanent residence later on.
