A Schengen visa is a short-stay visa. It lets you stay in the Schengen area for 90 days within 180 days. Your visa will be good for a set amount of time. This time frame might be less than 90 days. While your visa is still in effect, you can travel freely between the 26 Schengen nations.

Eligibility

You must meet the following three requirements: 

  • You need a visa if you're a relative of a citizen of Switzerland, the EU, or the EEA
  • You will be travelling to the country you wish to visit, either alone or with a family member. The family member you are visiting or travelling with is visiting or resides in a different country than the country they are a citizen of.

In most cases, you will learn the results of your application within 15 calendar days. However, there are times when it can take up to 45 days, for instance, if more documents are needed.

How to Apply
All Schengen visa applicants must submit their visa applications to the VFS offices in London, Edinburgh, Birmingham or Manchester. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs processes applications sent via VFS. Visa applications require a minimum of 14 days for processing. After this time, applicants can get in touch with VFS to get status updates.

The visa is free for kids under six years of age. It costs 40 EUR for 6-11 years old and 80 EUR for adults.

  • If you stay longer than 90 days, your visa will be limited to the Netherlands.
  • Generally, you must move out of the Netherlands to extend your Schengen visa. You must explain why you need to extend your stay
