Holiday and Family Visit Netherlands

About

You need to stay in the Netherlands for a maximum of 90 days; you require Holiday and Family Visit visa for this. Whether you require a visa depends on your nationality. During your stay, you may visit different parts of the Netherlands. Plus, it allows you to travel to other Schengen countries without restriction.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible, you must:

  • be travelling alone or with your family.
  • be financially stable enough to sponsor this trip.
  • provide all the necessary documents.

Documents

You must abide by the following requirements:

  • You possess a valid form of identification for travel, like a passport. Three months must pass after the expiration of the visa period for the travel document to remain valid. Additionally, it cannot be older than ten years.
  • You are not a threat to public order, national security or the international relations of one of the Schengen countries.
  • You're visiting the Netherlands for a specific reason. Invitation from the sponsor in the Netherlands, for instance, or a hotel reservation. The sponsor should have a valid residence permit or is a Dutch citizen. The sponsor uses the form of Proof of sponsorship and/or private accommodation.
  • You are financially capable of making your stay in the country.
  • You have good enough grounds to return to where you were born or last lived. For instance, you have a job, kids who are old enough for school, or your own house there. A return ticket alone is insufficient.

Process

You apply for a visa to the Dutch representation in your own country (country of origin). Or in the country you live in with a valid residence permit (country of residence).

When to Apply
You can submit the visa application no sooner than six months before you wish to travel to the Netherlands. Persons at sea for a long time for their work can apply for a visa from 9 months before departure.

Visa Processing Time
The visa is usually processed within 15 days. It can take over a month in some cases.

How to Apply
You often have to submit the visa application to an external agency: the external service provider (EDV), such as VFS Global of TLS Contact. This agency accepts the application and forwards it to the Dutch representative for the assessment.

Duration & Fees

Duration
You can apply for a short-stay visa for one journey (single entry visa) or for more trips (multiple entry visa). Both visas allow you to stay in the Netherlands or the other Schengen member state for up to 90 days during 180 days.

Fees
The visa is free for kids under six years of age. It costs 40 EUR for 6-11 years old and 80 EUR for adults.

Extension

Only in very exceptional circumstances may you extend your visa-exempt term. For example, when you are incapable of leaving the Netherlands due to a severe illness or circumstances beyond your control. You must also have enough money to support yourself. You can extend your permit-exempt term up to 90 days at the most. Your total stay may then not exceed 180 days.
