Long-Stay Visa (MVV) Netherlands

About

You might require a residence permit if you plan to stay in the Netherlands for longer than 90 days. In many cases, obtaining a long-stay visa is also necessary before departing for the Netherlands. This visa is also known as a Dutch provisional residence permit or authorization for temporary stay (MVV).

MVV or a Long-stay Visa for the Netherlands (type D) permits its holder to enter the Netherlands while their application for a Dutch residence permit is being processed.

You might need to submit an MVV application and a Dutch residence permit simultaneously, depending on your country. In other circumstances, a Dutch residence permit is all that is required, and you can apply for one within 90 days of your entry into the Netherlands.

Since it allows the holder to remain in the Netherlands for up to 90 days while their residence permit is being processed, an MVV visa is comparable to a Schengen visa. Unlike an MVV visa, a Netherlands Schengen visa does not allow you to apply for a Dutch residence permit.
