Family Reunification Visa Cyprus

About

To maintain family unity, family reunification refers to the entry and residence of a third-country national's family members who are now legally residing in the Republic. The family may consist of:

  • The sponsor's spouse provided that the marriage was conducted a minimum of a year before the application was submitted and that they are both at least 21 years old.
  • Minor children of the sponsor and their spouse, including any adopted children in accordance with a decision made by the Republic's competent authority, a decision made by the competent authority of another State, or a decision that is automatically enforceable because of the Republic's obligations under international law.
  • Sponsor's dependent minor children, which are those for whom the sponsor has custody and who may include adopted children, as described in point 2.
  • The sponsor's spouse's minor children, including adopted children, as specified in paragraph 2, where the sponsor's spouse has custody and the children are financially dependent on him/her.

Eligibility

The Aliens and Immigration Legislation states that foreign nationals who are legitimately residing in the Republic of Cyprus have the right to reunite with their families, provided that the sponsor has:

  • been residing legally in the Republic for at least two years.
  • residence permit valid for at least one year.
  • chance of getting the right to live there permanently.

Documents

You should provide the following documents.

  • Documentation required by the application type for the family member(s).
  • copies of passports that are valid for a minimum of two years after the application date for the sponsor and any family members.
  • Original medical examination findings from the sponsor's place of origin or residency for the sponsor's family members (for AIDS, Hepatitis B and C, Syphilis, and Tuberculosis).
  • Court ruling on the sponsor's and, if applicable, their spouse's adopted, minor children.
  • Child custody decision made by the court, if applicable.
  • Verification of Original Criminal Records for Sponsor's Family Members. Children under 16 do not require this.
  • Sponsor's bank accounts' statements.
  • Sponsor's utility (phone, electricity, or water) bills.

Process

A third-country national wishing to enter the Republic for a family reunion must obtain entry permission, per the Aliens and Immigration Law.

When to Apply
You should apply for a family reunification visa once you are eligible. Moreover, look for the visa processing time and apply accordingly.

Visa Processing Time
The visa can take more than a month to process, so you should be prepared to wait.

How to Apply
In Nicosia, at the Civil Registry and Migration Department, the sponsor must present an application before an entry permit can be granted.

Please be aware that unless the sponsor is employed by a company, as defined by the Companies Act, which has the authorization to employ third-country nationals, a third-country citizen cannot enter Cyprus for family reunification purposes with a tourist visa.
